ABOUT THE RIDE
Launched in 1990, the Ride for Sight is Retina South Africa’s flagship fundraiser, dedicated to advancing retinal research and supporting people with vision loss.
Now in its 37th year, the event has grown into one of South Africa’s largest inclusive cycling experiences, welcoming thousands of riders—including para-cyclists using tandems and handcycles—and raising over R13 million to date.
The 2026 edition is part of the Mzansi National Road Series and is expected to attract over 4000 participants.

SUPPORT DEVELOPING PARA-ATHLETES – BE A TANDEM PILOT!
Retina South Africa is looking for volunteers to join our growing pool of tandem cycling pilots – sighted cyclists who ride at the front of a tandem bicycle, empowering people living with vision loss to experience the joy and challenge of cycling.
Our para-athletes are training to take part, with training rides starting October 2025. This is a unique opportunity to share your love of cycling, make a real difference, and help build an inclusive sporting community.
Why volunteer as a pilot?
Give someone with vision loss the chance to participate in cycling events. Train together and form a rewarding partnership built on trust and teamwork. Help break barriers and grow para sport in South Africa.
