Carine Fraser: Walking the Camino with Purpose
Carine Fraser, a member of Retina South Africa and founder of Adventures for Love, is preparing to complete the final 258 km of the Camino Francés from 12–28 June 2026.
What makes this journey especially inspiring is that Carine is navigating the Camino while living with vision loss herself, turning her personal challenges into a powerful act of hope, remembrance and fundraising for Retina South Africa.
The Camino de Santiago is one of the world’s most recognised pilgrimage routes, attracting thousands of walkers every year. For many, it is a journey of reflection, perseverance and personal growth. For Carine, it is also an opportunity to create awareness about retinal conditions and support others affected by vision loss.
“Every step tells a story,” says Carine. “This journey is about remembering loved ones, embracing life’s challenges and showing that vision loss does not define what is possible.”
To support her fundraising efforts, Carine has launched a special ribbon campaign. For R100, supporters can purchase a personalised ribbon carrying the name of a loved one, a message of encouragement or a dedication close to their heart. These ribbons will become part of her Camino journey, symbolising the people walking alongside her in spirit.
Each ribbon purchased helps Retina South Africa continue providing support, information, advocacy and hope to individuals and families affected by retinal conditions throughout South Africa.
As Carine prepares to begin this remarkable adventure, we invite our community to walk beside her in a meaningful way.
Support Carine’s Camino journey by purchasing a personalised ribbon for R100 and become part of a story that celebrates courage, connection and hope. (CTA Button – BUY NOW)
